Branding for Petal & Pencil

Petal & Pencil is a new venture of mine - a place for my paintings, art journal and a new range of products, and I wanted to give it its own brand identity to keep things separate from Emma Webb Studio. I’ll be putting together an art licensing portfolio, as well as creating a range of paper goods such as greetings cards and wrapping paper. There’ll be lots of colours, designs and patterns involved, so I needed to create a brand identity that would fit well with it all.

I pulled together a collection of my designs, and picked out a selection of the most used colours. I tweaked the colours a little to make sure there was enough contrast, and they became the brand palette. The floral illustration in the logo is based on a recent painting, and the scallop shape is another element that appears regularly in my artwork.

I created a range of logo variations that I could use in different places within the website and products. I especially wanted a versatile logo that I could use on the back of greetings cards. The website is still a work in progress but aside from the branding elements, I’ll be keeping the design quite simple to allow the artwork itself to stand out.

Here’s a little preview of some of the card designs I’ve been working on. I’ve been sharing my work in progress over on Instagram, and the website will be launching soon.

Are you looking for a new brand identity for your business? I’d love to help bring your ideas to life!
