Hello there!
I'm Emma, a designer & illustrator based in the UK.
I live on the coast in West Sussex with my husband, Jamie, and our beautiful Cocker Spaniel pup, Lola. You’ll usually find me in my studio, often drawing more plants, or creating brand designs and custom illustrations for my lovely clients (Or wandering around a botanical garden with my sketchbook in one hand, and an oat latte in the other!)
I’ve loved being creative for as long as I could hold a pencil, and my hobbies growing up always involved drawing or making something. When I was 8, I wrote in an All About Me book that I wanted to be an illustrator when I grew up. Of course, over the years that plan changed more than a dozen times (including a brief few months where I considered law!) but after a Diploma in Art & Design at College, I went on to study Illustration at Southampton Solent University (where I also met my husband) and I’ve been working as a freelance designer & illustrator since I graduated in 2014.
A few of my favourite things…
Plants - My house and garden (and sketchbook) are full of them, and I’m gradually learning how to keep them alive!
Botanical Gardens - I got a membership to Kew a couple of years ago and have been going most months, sketchbook in hand and I lose the whole day just wandering around and drawing all the beautiful plants.
Walks on the beach - one of the main reasons we moved to the coast and a favourite activity for Lola too! I love to start the week with an early morning walk along the beach, listening to the waves as the tide comes in.
Markets - I love wandering round markets and finding a few little trinkets to take home. A yearly tradition on my birthday is to head to London and wander round our favourite markets (including the Record Market at Spitalfields, and the food stalls in Borough Market)
Vintage Nature Books - My favourite source of inspiration for my illustrations, my shelves are filled with beautiful vintage nature books.
Art Supplies - This one is pretty obvious, but I can never get enough pens, pencils & sketchbooks!
Board Games - Our favourite cosy evening activity is a fun board game. Some of our favourites are Ark Nova, Everdell and Wingspan.
Lola - Our beautiful Cocker Spaniel pup. Her responsibilities include snoozing under the desk, and bringing me a toy at 5pm to remind me to stop working!
