The Story Wood - Branding

Earlier this year I worked on the branding for an exciting new business (coming soon) called The Story Wood. Emily will be selling unloved wooden furniture that she has restored, giving it a new story. And also plans to write a blog about woodlands, the importance of stories and how they link to our mental wellbeing.

“The stories we tell about ourselves, the stories people tell about us, and those they tell of others, define us, connect us, can destroy us and also empower us.We are all made of stories and we can choose what to do with these.”

For Emily’s branding, we wanted to focus on the theme of stories, but without being too literal (so we avoided any imagery of books). We used imagery of trees, nature, light and forests. We also used a pattern to represent wood grain or tree rings, focusing on the way they can resemble fingerprints or maps, all circling round to the theme of stories. As a subtle nod towards to the theme of stories, we used a font reminiscent of those used in story books or on a typewriter.

The colour palette was based around nature, woodlands and the outdoors. The inclusion of a bold, sunshine yellow was to represent the feelings of joy and adventure that Emily wanted to be reflected in her brand.

The branding package include a set of custom illustrations which really helped to bring out themes and imagery that we were aiming for.

The new website for The Story Wood is still a work in progress while Emily finished up planning the launch of her new business, but it will hopefully be ready to share early next year.
